The air quality index is worsening in India day after day due to thermal power plants, Conventional sources of energy based manufacturing plants, Diesel & petroleum based transportation sector etc. Earlier, in the 2021 world air quality report released by IQAir (a swiss group), India had become the home of 11 of the 15 most polluted cities in central and south Asia in 2021. Considering these facts CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) had targeted to expand the opportunities for the private players in India in manufacturing the bio fuel / green fuel for cofire it with coal in thermal power plants for energy. Biomass pellets are a type of bio fuel that can be used with coal to produce energy. CPCB is planning to offer subsidies of worth INR 50 crore to promote the manufacturing of biomass pellet in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan from the crop residue because these five states are the major producer of grains, oil seeds, Rabi and Barley in India so the availability of crop residue such as stubble, leaves, sea pods and stalk is in larger amount that can be used to manufacture green fuel.
Burning of crop residues after crop harvesting produces major amount of harmful gases such as methane, nitrous oxide etc which causes air pollution majorly in Delhi NCR (National Capital Region) and this is the major reason behind the worsening of Air quality index. Subsidies in manufacturing the biomass pellet may attract the major private players such as Ronak Aggrotech engineering PVT Ltd, Ansa sales corporation and Hitech combustion to produce more amount of biomass pellet (powder).
