CEA: Report of Committee Report Examines Wear, Tear, O&M and Lifespan Impacts of Flexible Operation

The CEA Committee on Wear & Tear, O&M and Plant Lifespan Implications due to Flexible Operation was constituted following concerns raised by NTPC regarding the impact of two-shift operation and 40% Minimum Technical Load (MTL) on coal-based thermal power plants. NTPC reported increased boiler tube leakages, flame failures, generator and turbine failures, and accelerated equipment degradation due to repeated ramping and low-load operation.
