The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched operational guidelines for a Small Hydropower Programme with a financial outlay of ₹2,585 crore over the next five years to promote renewable energy generation from projects up to 25 MW. The scheme aims to add around 1,500 MW of small hydropower capacity across India, with a special focus on hilly and northeastern states.
