India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has granted major relief to renewable energy developers by classifying project delays caused by the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) Supreme Court case as force majeure. In an order issued on January 12, 2026, the ministry allowed extensions to commissioning timelines for wind and solar projects affected in Rajasthan and Gujarat, where uncertainty over transmission infrastructure had stalled development.
