India’s Ministry of Power has released the draft Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Amendment Rules, 2026, proposing reforms that strengthen consumer participation and service standards in the power sector. The amendments aim to provide faster electricity connections in urban areas within three days, introduce safeguards to automatically review unusual spikes or drops in electricity bills, and mandate digital grievance redressal systems with online filing, tracking, and virtual hearings.
