The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) CO₂ Database provides an official and consistent framework for calculating greenhouse-gas emissions and grid emission factors for India’s electricity sector. Its origins lie in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under the Kyoto Protocol, which enabled climate-friendly energy projects to generate carbon-related revenues by reducing the carbon intensity of electricity generation.
