The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued draft guidelines for series approval of various storage batteries—lead-acid, lithium-ion, and nickel-based—to standardize performance testing under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) registration process. These guidelines define a “product family” based on shared design and construction elements, ensuring compliance with the national standard IS 16270:2023, which covers secondary cells and batteries used in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
